Crescent Moon the new espresso bar and café offering free high-speed, WI-FI internet access and a warm cup of coffee. It is owned and operated by a brother and sister team, Sief Asadi and Maytha Akawi, located in historic downtown Algonquin. Crescent Moon welcomes the community and offers a cozy seat and a warm cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa. The café also offers customers an opportunity to try exotic Mediterranean flavors while always offering the traditional classics.
The menu consists of gourmet coffees (Turkish, Italian, and Traditional), the finest teas, hand made pastries (baklava, cookies, cakes), and premium quality ice cream. Crescent Moon’s specialties are their, burékas, manaeesh, and Turkish coffee, three Mediterranean favorites. Burékas are made of puff pastry filled with Bulgarian cheese, potato and onion, or spinach and cheese, topped with sesame seeds.
Hummus, a dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. Hummus has long been a staple food, garnished with olive oil and "nana" mint leaves, paprika, parsley or cumin.
Turkish coffee is served in a small cup like espresso, it is coffee prepared by boiling finely powdered roast coffee beans and ground cardamom in a pot (cezve), possibly with sugar, and serving it into a cup, where the dregs settle. Crescent Moon provides all of the good things in life, in addition to a cozy environment with comfy couches and chairs, original artwork and a romantic mural depicting the sun kissing the moon.
